The goal is improving overall performance. It takes advantage of the particular effectiveness of one training method to negate the shortcomings of another. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is a form of interval training, an exercise strategy alternating short periods of intense anaerobic exercise with less-intense recovery periods. HIIT is a form of cardiovascular exercise. Usual HIIT sessions may vary from 4–30 minutes. These short, intense workouts provide improved athletic capacity and condition as well as improved glucose metabolism. The Tabata method is 4 minutes of workout more effective that 1 hour of cardio! 20 seconds of intense exercise followed by 10 seconds of recovery, repeat 8 times for a total workout for 4 minutes.
